  Our Story, so far. Stillwaters Stud is located in the rural setting of the Hills district in Sydney, Australia. Close to all the benefits of a large city but still rural enough to accommodate the growing number of horses we have. David and I have owned horses for most of our lives, although the passion for Appaloosas came from me. My first Appaloosa was a birthday gift at age 16. Maxine was a ‘solid’ but I didn’t care, I just loved her for her remarkable nature and temperament. The nature of the Appy was what drew us to them, with four young sons running around, we found the Appies to be people orientated and fitted in our family lifestyle. On top of that is the stunning colour. The Appaloosa’s colour is as individual as the people that own them. You can chose from no colour to any colour of the Appy rainbow. We had focused on producing a small number of high quality halter horses. Although we primarily intended to breed ‘halter horses” we understood that horses are a form to function animal and therefore intended to produce animals that are physically and mentally capable to carry on a future as a ridden competitor. Horses carrying the Stillwater’s prefix now grace the show ring, not just as Champion halter horses, but also in varying events such as hunter in hand, dressage, sporting, pony club, trail riding and hacking. We’re very proud to have contact from happy owners that sing the praises of their mounts. Our stud’s mares carry modern day world-class halter and performance bloodlines. They are direct descendants of show wining champions or are full siblings to such. The majority are themselves show ring champions, at Futurity, State, National level. The mares initially used in the breeding program were chosen from studs over the country. The vast majority were Dreamfinder / Prince Plaudit bloodlines. Combining them with some of the best stallions available (both Appaloosa and Quarter Horse) the stud now has daughters/grand daughters of these combinations. In recent times we had expanded the stud to now include two stunning Appaloosa Stallions. The first, the stunning performance stallion The Socialite. The Socialite is a highly credentialed coloured performance horse, a competitive winner in both Appaloosa and Open Company. He is well known for his quiet manner, stunning looks and movement. Our new junior stallion is TL Phenomenal Dream. ‘Phenomenal’ is what this young halter stallion is. We had searched both here and overseas for a stallion that would fit our halter breeding program. We believe we have found our ‘Phenomenal Dream’. These two stallions now add a different dimension to Stillwaters Stud. Their inclusion now gives prospective buyers or breeders a choice; whether they seek a halter, performance or a horse that can do it all. In 2000 Stillwaters Show Horses was formed, and a limited number of outside horses are taken for halter preparation each season. I find this very satisfying. I love to watch my amateurs compete, the look and pride on their faces when they accomplish their dreams. I gain great satisfaction in teaching the horse and then the owner. My goal is for that team to eventually become ‘self sufficient’ and I take great pleasure in their accomplishments. While I hone my skills in open events, Dave competes in his amateur and our children try their hand at halter, in the saddle and on the footy field, our story continues with each new season and crop of new foals brought into this world.
